Home -> Community -> Mailing Lists -> Oracle-L -> RE: how to analyze core dumps
this seems like odd behavior. Normally, there should be a trace file
(probably called something like {SID}_ora_1542.trc) that corresponds to
the core file. It should be written to the directory user_dump_dest
as defined in your init file. The trace file should be a text file and
should contain at least some clues regarding the error.
What are your init settings for core_dump_dest, user_dump_dest, and max_dump_file_size?

Hi!
My database produces a core dump every minute, but we have no idea why. Nothing gets written to the alert log or the like. Hardly anybody is on the system and even bouncing the instance didn't help...
How do I read the core dumps created in the udump directory? This seems to be a binary file.
/udump/core_1542/core (about 600 MB in size)
Or is th eonly way to send it to Oracle Support for analysis?
This is 8.1.7 on Solaris 8.
Thanks,
Helmut
