I'll second that emphatically. A co-worker pointed out an article on OTN, http://otn.oracle.com/oramag/Coekaerts.html, where Oracle's Linux guru Wim Coekaerts touts "Since Linux is free...". HARDLY! Yes, Linux is free, but not when you want to get support for Oracle on it! He also says "Dependence on a single OS "vendor" goes away." Sure! You can go from paying RedHat to paying SuSE to what? UnitedLinux??? Are they kidding? This is acceptable how?

I wrote Steve Lipson, the author of the article, but haven't received a reply.

Actually freeness isn't a question anymore. All the new oracle versions only
have OWS certification for the pay distros (RedHat AS, SuSE Enterprise, etc.)
