Home -> Community -> Mailing Lists -> Oracle-L -> RE: Linux or W2K
I'll second that emphatically. A co-worker pointed out an article on OTN,
http://otn.oracle.com/oramag/Coekaerts.html, where Oracle's Linux guru Wim
Coekaerts touts "Since Linux is free...". HARDLY! Yes, Linux is free, but
not when you want to get support for Oracle on it! He also says "Dependence
on a single OS "vendor" goes away." Sure! You can go from paying RedHat to
paying SuSE to what? UnitedLinux??? Are they kidding? This is acceptable
how?
I wrote Steve Lipson, the author of the article, but haven't received a reply.

Actually freeness isn't a question anymore. All the new oracle versions
only
have OWS certification for the pay distros (RedHat AS, SuSE Enterprise,
etc.)
