Home -> Community -> Mailing Lists -> Oracle-L -> RE: restrict access to certain columns only
Helmut,
Your view strategy will work, but Oracle also allows you to grant INSERT, UPDATE, or REFERENCES privileges on individual table columns. If you ever grant INSERT privileges on a column, make sure all NOT NULL columns in the table are insertable or have NON-NULL default values.

Hi!
What would be the best way to restrict users' access to certain columns of a table?
e.g. User1 owns a table and want to grant user2 the right to update only certain columns in that table. What would be the best way to implement this?
Using a view and granting user2 update rights on the view?
This is 9.2 on Solaris.
Thanks,
Helmut
