As far as I am aware, an autostart will NOT interfere with a recovery scenario. If a file was missing (on autostart) and the Db does not come up, and you will get errors in the alert log. The only time I would not suggest an autostart is when there are timing issues - i.e. a Database has to startup after or before another application or application tier.
