Here is the tnsnames.ora entry. As I mentioned in my previous note, this is a direct copy from tnsnames.ora on my W2k client which has no problem connecting
to this database.

test1.world=
  (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
      (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP )(HOST = mfgad11)(PORT=1521))     )
    (CONECT_DATA =
      (SID = test1)
    )
  )
