UTL_FILE is slow

Hi everybody,

We have a few applications that use utl_fiile to create rather large output files on a 8.1.6.0.0 database. The output via utl_file seems significantly slower than using spool. I see alot of other complaints on Metalink about utl_file in 8.1.6 being slow, but I don't see that it was ever decided that it really is a bug, or if the speed is improved in later versions. Does anyone know if utl_file is any faster in versions beyond 8.1.6.0.0? By slow, I mean its writing about 2MB/min. thanks,
