Home -> Community -> Mailing Lists -> Oracle-L -> RE: Sessions Hang When Not Being Traced/Unhang When Being Traced
Yes I have seen this when we first went to Oracle 817 - in our case it turned out to be related to bug 1353943 under 817 - this resulted in core dumps and instance crashing unless we had sql_trace set to true.
I have been told by Oracle contacts that they have seen similar things happen before - sometimes relating to the sql_trace and timed_statistics bugs that existed in some versions of 815. I would search for these bugs and see if you might be running into them.

Traced
Tom,
Have you checked the V$SESSION_EVENT for those sessions to find out the waits?

Anybody seen this before?
Running 8.1.5.0 on Solaris. We have a third party product written in java which runs for a certain amount of time then hangs. I don't see any locks or waits for the applications sessions. This does not happen if I put sql_trace=true in the init file and bounce the database. I can unhang and hang the application sessions using ORADEBUG EVENT 10046 TRACE NAME CONTEXT FOREVER, LEVEL whatever/ORADEBUG EVENT 10046 TRACE NAME CONTEXT OFF.
I've searched Metalink's bug database and haven't found any bugs that apply yet.
