I have Oracle 8.1.7.0.0 running on a Windows 2000 Pro (sp2). I tried to install the 8.1.7.2.1 patchset according to the "readme" directions (shutdown all Oracle* services first, etc.), but when I try to run "setup.exe", nothing happens. The icon flashes momentarily after being double-clicked, but nothing ever actually runs. I tried it a number of times. Then I tried it with an older 8.1.7.1.1 patchset - and the exactly same thing happened. These patchsets are for "Windows NT", but I assumed they would work for 2000 as well. (Am I wrong in this assumption?) Does anyone have any experience with this and/or workarounds?
