I was in a similiar situation. I was installing Oracle onto the D drive. But installation software created C:\Program Files\Oracle on the C drive to contain all the installation info/logs and current software installed list. So I had to delete the Oracle directory on the D drive and C:\Program Files\Oracle directory too.

I am having great difficulty in getting Oracle 8.1.7 installed on Win 2k. I have completely removed Oracle, i.e., directory,registry entries, program groups and services. When I try to re-install it again Installer says 167 products installed when in fact there are none. Where is Oracle reading this from so I can delete this d__n file.
