Hi All,
Maybe my lack of knowledge on NT, but... If you do not specify a pfile in your startup routine it will use the init<SID>.ora in the default location (ORACLE_HOME/database). If you do specify a pfile, there is your answer. Somebody correctly pointed out that the init<SID>.ora in de default directory often only contains a pointer to another file (on UNIX I use a "link") , in which case you still know the pfile being used.

Couldn't you look at the name of the db in the pfile and compare it to the
sid in sqlplus?

Is there a way I can find out which parameter file is being used by the database. One way I tried was to make the changes in one file and see if it takes effect when the database is restarted. but I have more than 52 machines and it will be time consuming to do the same for all machines especially when these machines are on remote locations.
