You may be thinking of dbload. Informix also has ipload (high performance loader). onunload and onload are used for unloading and loading binary copies of the database (consistent copy). Docs can be found here --> http://www.informix.com/answers/english/product1.htm for all product versions.

Apologies if my ailing memory doesn't serve me correctly but is the Informix utility LOAD/UNLOAD from/to OS files. I do sort of remember using that when I had Informix DBs to look after as well as Oracle but it was a good 2-3 years ago now.

Glenn,
At the last NorthEast Oracle Users Group meeting we had a developer from
Oracle in Nashua NH who's purpose in life is the utilities like SQL*Loader,
Export and Import. He told us of the "replacement of SQL*Loader" in Oracle
9.
Basically you've hit it on the head. You place the file somewhere where the
DB
can see it and using SQL*Loader like syntax describe the table(s) to the
database. Then you can use plain old SQL to either read and process the
data or
manipulate it as you like. I believe he said we could even index the data
therein and that it could be used for either data extraction and insertion.
Sounds interesting, can't wait to get my hands on it.

apologies. no offense was intended.
on a side note, Informix has a feature that lets you define a table which
references a flat file in unix. This allows them to bypass the buffer cache
and facilitate fast table loads. I believe I read that this will be in
Oracle 9 also, but I can't find the references at this time. Anyone have
more info?

AT&T uses Oracle. I'm well acquainted with sqlldr, and I assumed that the questioner was too. I took his question to be: was there a bulkcopy utility in addition to sqlldr and the answer as far as I know is no.

Howdy,
The only bulkcopy utility that I know of is a Sybase utility. The Sybase bcp command moves data from a flat file to a Sybase table and vice versa. I don't know of any such command in Oracle.

All,
Anyone heard of this utility for Oracle ?. Someone mentioned it today and I didn't have a clue. They said it would be in $ORACLE_HOME/bin. Nothing there !!
