All,

The oracle support rep came to the same conclusion. After a reboot the database came back to life without error. I guess we will have to perform some follow-up memory and hardware tests to try and find the root cause.

This sounds like a heap (memory) error. Check for system memory errors.

Another DBA I work with opened a TAR (1535656.999) but I was wondering if anyone else has seen this also? The database is at version 8.1.6.2 on Solaris 2.6.
