I can't comment on AIX but, I have one machine (Solaris) running 7.3.4, 8.0.6, 8.1.5 and 8.1.6. (Same userid, different oracle_homes) About 8 instances in all. (Don't ask why. 8)
There really shouldn't be any troubles doing the same on AIX.
