Puri, You are not alone. I had a problem to install 8.1.7 on Solaris
5.8. The Oracle support could not help. The truss log recorded 'ioctl
Err#89'. The 8.1.7 installer had a problem to write the bin. files to my
disk (privilege was not the issue). I resolved the problem by using nfs
mount the production disks to my local WS, then installed the 8.1.7 from
there.

Ultra 5) for quite a long time now.
