Opinion: RMAN vs Veritas

Jon,
We use RMAN for doing the backups in Oracle (like full backup, incremental backup etc...) and use Veritas for file systems and volume management at the O/S level.

As you said RMAN is built into Oracle and Veritas is an add-on at the system level. You could use Netbackup of Veritas for doing the backups, but I do not have first-hand experience about this product. May be somebody else could fill the gaps ...

Subject: Opinion: RMAN vs Veritas

I was wondering if anyone out there had a quick opinion on which is best to use besides the fact that rman is already built in/paid for.

I have no experience with either, but need to determine all factors before proceeding. Just looking for ease of use (or not) and such.

Does rman still have a role when using Veritas software?
