Confused about client Net8 to 8.1.6 on Solaris

We have a database that runs on a server named "jed".  Who knows why!



There are client workstations that use "jed" as their connect string yet I=
 can not find "jed" mentioned in the client TNSNAMES.ORA at all.



How can this be?
