I said that Oracle 8.1.7 was only available for download on Technet for = Sun. I was making a joke that it was not yet available for those more fortunate: those with HP hardware. Lately there has = been a lot of complaining that new Sun hardware was not all that stable. Someone complained, for example, that their new Enterprise = 10000 rebooted once a day.
Happy to hear 8.1.7 is available on CD now. I'll place an order.
I don't know where you were told that Oracle 8.1.7 is not available = for Sun. I ordered it and received the CD-ROM's last week.
Oracle 8.1.7 is currently only available for download from = technet.oracle.com, to those unfortunate enough to
have Sun instead of HP hardware.
I've upgraded two databases to 8.1.7 so far, and despite its = installing and starting up Apache, am impressed with it.
There seem to be a lot of bugs fixed in 8.1.7 than are not listed in = the release notes and read me. At least the bugs
I reported against 8.1.6 all appear fixed so far. Even the = v$session_longops view has fewer apparantly corrupt sys entries.
So far the only problem I've encountered with 8.1.7 is that the = intelligent agent discovers Apache as a service and lists it
as such in services.ora. OEM 1.6 does not mind and is happy to = discover 8.1.7 with the Apache service. OEM 2.1, however,
can't handle the Apache service and errors when attempting to = discover 8.1.7.
I'd love to hear of anybody else's experiences with 8.1.7, as I'm = planning to upgrade yet another reporting database to it next
weekend. =20
