Praveen,
I'd recommend a visit to MetaLink & a search on "EMC". There are several papers there on how to do this actually written by Oracle. Mind you their all based on version 7.3, but their still very relevant. To make this work (in a nutshell), place the entire database (all tablepsaces, redologs, and control files) on the EMC disks where the BCV will mirror them. Archived redo logs can be placed elsewhere. Then re-silver the BCV, place the entire DB in HOT-BACKUP mode, split the BCV off, & end the backup completely. Time in backup mode is less than a minute for the most part. When you fire up the BCV copy it will need to be taken out of backup mode & then will go through instance recovery before opening.

Hi All,
I am in the process of designing a backup strategy for our Web Portal Database.
The database will
reside on EMC disks. I am familiar with the BCV concept but do not have any
hands-on experience. I
need your help to determine the following.
All comments are appreciated.
TIA
