Home -> Community -> Mailing Lists -> Oracle-L -> RE: ODBC and Macintosh
Neil,
Not sure if this will be helpful but Oracle has just announced "the support and certification of the Apple Macintosh client for Oracle Applications 11i".
A quick scan of the release notes suggests that it is using Java on the Mac to access Oracle.
See the link on Metalink:

Hope this is of some help / interest.
Regards,

Subject: Re:OCDB
Neil,
Some months ago, possibly a year by now, Oracle issued a general
desupport
notice for the entire Apple/MAC product line. That generally means that
there
is no support for anything thereafter. I fear that ODBC will not be your
savior
either since you still need to be able to connect to the database via
SQL*Net/NET8 which is not going to follow the OS. Your only path is to
abandon
the MAC altogether or get into WEBDB and other associated WEB technologies
so
that your client software is strictly a browser. I'm afraid that the reason
for
this is the death of the MAC as a business computer system. I would guess
that
you can blame MicroSoft for that, their latest versions of Word and Excel do
not
run on MAC's & other third party vendors have followed suit. Seems that the
MAC
is now only a niche item for graphics & some home users. At our
organization
the population of MAC's dropped from a peak of 50 machines to one today &
it's
days are numbered.

Hello,
Does anyone out there use Macintosh computers? If so, what do you do about
using Net8? We were told Oracle does not and will not support Net8
connections
via Macintosh O/S 9.
We now connect via Sql*Net version 2 when connecting Mac's to Oracle 8.1.6.
but
are having problems with alias'es not surviving a reboot of the system. We
have
to reset Oracle_Home after each reboot.
What will Oracle do for Macintosh O/S 10? Does anybody know? We do not
want to
use ODBC unless nothing else is available.
