RE: Oracle on Linux

I have that configuration at home and it works fine. I've had no problems worth mentioning with 8.1.6.1 on RH 6.2, despite the fact that I hacked my linux heavily (kernel 2.2.17, helix-gnome 1.2, webdb for a HTTP server, GCC 2.95.2 compiler instead of EGCS 1.1.2, GDB 5.0 to name a few changes I've made)

I have a client who wants to try out Oracle 8 on a Linux, Intel platform.

The requirement is to load an export of an operational database and allow a single user to interrogate it with a suitable reporting tool.

Does anyone have an experience/advice about this, initially I am thinking of things such as:

• Are there any known problems which I need to avoid
• Which version of Linux (Oracle Technet seems recommend Redhat - do we agree)
• Advice on sizing a suitable Intel box
• Suggestions for a reporting tool
