Outsourcing "Production" DBA work?

Our company is looking at outsourcing 'non-strategic' or 'small' DBA tasks
with the goal of allowing the in-house DBA team to focus on strategic
projects.


We've tried to educate mgt as to what it takes to perform these so-called
small tasks to no avail.   



I would appreciate comments from those shops where some outsourcing of DBA
functions has occurred (or is planned) and the problems, risks, or benefits
that has resulted.
