Hi,
You can have big SGA's on a 32 bit system also. On a Sequent (now IBM) NUMA the init.ora parameter use_indirect_data_buffers can be used and the SGA can be upto the physical memory.
The size of one SHM segment is a max of 4G though. The use_indirect_data_buffers uses the virtwin calls that enables SGA definitions of > the 2.5 GB limit.

We defined an SGA of 9GB for a benchmarking effort on a NUMA with 16GB memory.
