Hi Andrey,

I don't think you can compare them in that way.

Oracle 8 is any version that is 8.0.?
Oracle 8i is any version that is 8.1.? and presumably above Oracle 8i includes various capabilities suited to internet application development, together with a lot more extension of other capabilities.

But the main thing is that 8i are just marketing pseudo-speak for the latest release of 8.

The real decision is whether you use an 8.0.? release at its most stable level and forgo some of the capabilities in 8.1.? bearing in mind that 8.0.5 is on the desupport list or take advantage of the greater capabilities of 8.1.? and address any "bugs/features" as they occur.

If I were starting development of a new internet development now it would have to be 8.1.5 or 8.1.6 depending on which OS you choose.

Otherwise you limit the database server to being just a backend database instead of a core player in the application.

hope it helps

Rod
