ORA-01157: cannot identify data file 2 - file not found

Hi,

Recieving ORA-01157: cannot identify data file 2 - file not found

          ORA-01110: data file 2: 'disk1:[somewhere]xyz.dbs'

OpenVMS 6.2, Alpha AXP 2100 5/250, Oracle 7.1.5.2.3

Can anyone offer some assistance on the above error message. Maybe a quick fix (hope! hope!). It seems using single_process = true in init.ora problem will at least temporarily fix this. But, as soon as I comment this out and restart the instance I get the above message. Any and all suggestions/ comments welcome.
