SUBJECT: 'hot' backups
I'm working on implementing them too. Use the V$BACKUP view. If the status is ACTIVE it is in backup mode, the rest of mine show NOT ACTIVE.

I'm just implementing 'hot' or 'online' backups for some Oracle databases and one thing I haven't been able to find is:
How do I determine which tablespaces have had the 'begin backup' command executed against them and which haven't.
DBA_TABLESPACES doesn't change after I execute the command so is there somewhere else I can look?
