Referenced Canvasses, Boilerplate Text and the Vanishing trick

Hi again,

I 've found something very interesting in FORMS v 4.5.6.3.3., in regards to referenced canvasses and boilerplate text.

Say form A has canvas X, among other objects. Create an object group - add canvas X to it.

Now create form B. Reference object group from form A. The canvas X is now a referenced canvas. Add some boilerplate text to canvas X. Save the form. Reopen form B. Voila - the boiler plate text added to canvas X in form B has disappeared. However, the boiler plate text entered in canvas X in form A ( which owns the canvas ) comes up fine.

Why even simpler : Try referencing a canvas, drag/drop, from one form to another. Try putting some text in the referenced canvas. Close and repoen to find the text missing.

Called up the Worldwide support. They have reproduced this bug/feature.

I'm not 100% confident as to whether this is a bug. Could it be the fact that like any other referenced objects, you cannot make changes to refenced canvasses. The problem then is why does FORMS allow you to put in items/text in there. If this were a feature, there is a major hole in the object orientation in FORMS.

Is Oracle listening !!

Help someone.
