A data type is a unit of data storage in a software system.
Some of Oracle's built-in data types are:
- NUMBER
- CHAR
- NCHAR
- VARCHAR2
- NVARCHAR2
- DATE
- TIMESTAMP
- INTERVAL YEAR TO MONTH
- INTERVAL DAY TO SECOND
- BLOB - Binary Large Object
- CLOB - Character Large Object
- NCLOB
- BFILE - locator to external binary file
- XMLType - Storage of XML data
- RAW
- LONG
- LONG RAW
