I have seen long time technical bookstores in socal go down the tubes, and consider that a prime example of how economics can ruin positive social structures, because the "long tail" is bullshit in meatworld. Small vendors were perfectly able to profit with items out of the mainstream until electronic vendors became able to use the long tail concept. People who advocate open software bazaar models should take note of this.
