What should I do with my certification?

I am currently an OCP with 8.

I am thinking about getting my 9i directly without getting 8i, but Oracle just annouced that anybody without 8i has to go to their $2000 hands-on class to get 9i certification.

I have been working as an Oracle DBA for almost 2year, should I spead this $2000? (my company certainly will not sponsor me).

Another option is, get 8i first, and then 9i.

Any body has any suggestions?
