I agree with the previous reply about getting some hands on knowledge on setting up & using Oracle.

Though I'm not necessarily a big fan of vendor backed "Certificates", getting an OPC would likely help you reach your goal.

VOLUNTEER! Many community based service organizations would welcome anyone with computer skills to better automate their offices. You donate your time & skills while gaining Real Life experience and hopefully a "Very Positive" referal to any potential employer.

I've made the transition from Solaris SA to Oracle DBA, so it can be done.
