If network between your source and destination is an issue then you should consider doing a targetless backup based duplicate from backup destination. This would eliminate all network transfers during the duplicate.

To achieve this:
Take a backup of the source
Transfer the backup to your destination Perform a targetless duplicate from the backup location

There are many examples on the oracle support portal and google for this.
