Oracle did a memory dump to udump which grew to 3.4 GBs. Any idea why? I thought memory dumps went to the cdump directory.

Shutdown immediate didnt work. It just hung. So we did a shutdown abort. Everything is fine. Im just concerned. All the procedure did was the following:

pseudocode

procedure blah is

begin

throw exception

when others then

dbms_Alert.signal(constant that is not registered) dbms_output.
end;
/
clearly it hung on alert since we didnt commit. any idea why killing it caused this problem?
