Yes, the binaries and datafile format are identical. Oracle and IBM spent alot of time making sure this was possible. If you have Metalink access see document 22352.1.

List,
I am going to clone a database from 8i on AIX 4.3.3 and take the files over to a different server running 8i on AIX 5.1. Both are in 32-bit mode. We rebooted our AIX 5.1 server into 32-bit mode to enable us to install 8i. Can I take the files from AIX 4.3 to AIX 5.1?
