When I applied 8.1.7.3 (not 8.1.7.4 though) to my 8.1.7 oracle db on Solaris
2.8, $ORACLE_HOME was not changed. If you already have 8.1.7 installed, you
don't need another oracle home for 8.1.7.4. Your problem might be due to two
copied of 8.1.7 vanilla on your system.
