Paula - Wow, what a memory! You are right. I thought the Net exam would be
tough, but several people on the list said it wasn't as bad as you expect.

Another vote for Toastmasters. I participated for about 5 years. I find the
fundamentals they drill into you helps even in informal business
discussions. Clear communication helps all around. Highly recommended.

Whilst I've never been to Toastmasters, I've a number
of friends who (when they changed from technical to
managerial) swear by the benefits - so I indirectly
recommend the organisation vigorously.
Unfortunately I'm stuck with the opposite affliction
of too much liking for public speaking. Generally my
presentations conclude with:
"Excuse me Mr McDonald. Its building management here.
Everyone's gone home. You've run over your 1 hour
timeslot by 3 days...Get out of our building or we
call security! And get that stupid grin off your face"
