With the career path discussion in full swing I would like to remind folks
that (IMHO) we are the keepers of the data and as such we have a duty. A
duty to maintain an ethical approach to performing our jobs. I for one
decided a few years ago that I would NOT work on databases or for companies
that degrade personal privacy, violate the constitution, discriminate
against individuals, aid in the production of weapons or interfere the
rights of due process. No matter how much they pay...it just was not worth
it in my eyes. (Others are welcome to make their own choices, obviously)
I think anyone asking themselves what my career path should be in data mangement should set some guidelines that they are comfortable with. I have been in some places in the past that made me feel uncomfortable after the joy of the paycheck wore off.
Something to think about...while you tune queries...
