In order to minimize production server downtime in your situation I
would set up the new box as a standby database... If you have the
storage capability, you can mount the redo logs for the old system on
the new system and apply them right away. If you set up TAF correctly
(no simple task) you could have zero _functional_ downtime with the
right equipment and system activity.

The company I am working for is planning to move the whole production server to a new faster box. As DBA, I will move the database and planning to use hot backup files in order to minimize the production server down time. Are there any issues or drawbacks I need to be aware of if the hot backup files are used to replicate the database?
This is 8.1.7 on Solaris 2.7
Thanks,
