This reminds me of an experience I had recently. I wanted to open a new checking account. I decided on a particular bank based on the fact that they waive numerous service charges if you do direct deposit, all ATM transactions (< 2 teller visits a month), get your checks as images, etc... Well, I went to the local branch to fill out an application. They told me they do all that online now, so go home and log on the the internet and fill out the app. I went online, and filled out the application on their secure web site. I got a followup phone call from a bank rep who needed more information and verification that I actually filled out the app. Then I got a postal letter saying they could not process my online application and to visit the nearest branch office to open an account. Sheesh! What's the point anymore??? And how much did it cost them to think they were saving money by having an online presence...
