JG,
DNS hostnames is far more preferable. You also may have problems with any DB links where someone entered all of the TNSnames stuff into the host clause. That was a method of creating DB links that Oracle suggested for certain bugs in 7.3. You'll also potentially have problems in listener.ora ans sqlnet.ora files and on your clients if their local installs.

Hello Gurus:
We are in the process of changing over our IP addressing scheme to a private network behind a firewall. This meant that all out servers are going to get new IP addresses. I know that our TNSNames file has IP addresses in it that will have to be changed. What other places will I have to look to make sure everything still works when we switch? Is it possible (advisable) to replace the IP address with a DNS hostname?
We are running Oracle 7.3.4 on HP/UX and OAS 4.x on a Sun Enterprise 450
Thanks
JG
