32 bits emulation is an x86 problem indeed. Must have something to do with some 32 bit libraries used by the installer. Do you still get this swap error after reboot? You mentioned virtual server. Might it be that the swap space is not fully allocated at first? I have seen problems with virtual servers, not allocating the total disk space, giving wrong results when some programs check free space (though the OS returns the 'virtual' amount of free space).

An AS/DB combined is not unusual for an infrastructure installation (it's the default) but most of the times we separate them as well... certainly on virtual servers.
