I used to face the same problem.
One metalink note said that "The problem is caused by a Microsoft
issue regarding the Kerberos authentication."
This is described in the Microsoft article.

To resolve this problem, apply the appropriate version of the hotfix
on all computers that are running Microsoft Windows XP or Windows
Server 2003
After i applied this, the problem no longer occurs on my machine
