I can think of many worse people to be confused with than Dan :-) His answer wasn't off for the question he was quoting. The docs are less clear than some metalink notes about RMAN requiring the backup to be available to the auxiliary host, he might have added that, the OP appeared to show confusion about that with the ftp question, it's a common thing to want RMAN to be able to restore over the wire from the primary backup set.
