Hi Sybrand - thanks for the quick response!
I should have stated that this is actually for a customer who are on 9.2.0.8. I am just using 9.2.0.1.0 as I had to install 9 in order to try and figure out this problem. We tend to use Oracle 10 these days! Any ideas how I can tell from SQL Plus whether or not the data is stored correctly?
I take your point about changing the storage of the data - at present I am just trying to find a workaround for this that does not require structural changes to the DB, and if possible does not require the XML to be generated in a different encoding format.
One other thing - were LONG columns completely desupported from 8 onwards? This is a DB that started life on Oracle 7 (or earlier), and as I am sure you appreciate new development often takes priority over modifying existing things. We are planning to overhaul the DB completely at some point, but until then any ideas to fix this for the time being would be appreciated.
