Yeah, I found those but believed there was a different parameter that directly affects SBR vs. MBR. Probably a case of stale memory. :-) However, your additional explanation is greatly appreciated as the Oracle docs are a bit sparse IMHO. Thank you!

So are you suggesting to gather statistics during normal operation?

So you are saying that the optimizer does not use the DB parameter but what it gathers from the statistics? Did I get that right?
