Hmmm, an interesting conclusion for someone who has been working in IT for 30 years, Oracle has plenty of competition - especially on windows from IBM Microsoft and now various open source databases. Oracle servers tend not to run ZoneAlarm (pro or otherwise) but sit behind corporate firewalls. Finally you seem to be judging the rdbms based on the interaction of a specific web interface that comes as default with a limited free product aimed at developers, with a specific cheap personal firewall.

I understand the frustration, but find it hard to share your conclusions.
