Some ramifications of running in NOARCHIVELOG mode:
1 - Due to loss of data files, if recovery is required, you can only restore from the last offline backup. ANY changes made to the database since then WILL BE LOST. More frequent offline backups need to be performed if you wish to run in NOARCHIVELOG mode.
2 - Since you cannot take online backups (because you are NOARCHIVELOG mode), the database is not available during offline backups.
3 - Tablespaces cannot be taken offline immediately.
Offline backups are sometimes referred to as cold backups.Either way, it involves shutting the database down in normal mode (shutdown normal) and backing up all required Oracle database files (data files, online redo log files, control files, configuration files, executables/code).
