First of all there is a certification matrix on Metalink, showing which
versions on Solaris are possible against 8.1.7. It might be also
available on otn, but you would probably need to install the Oracle
toolbar in your browser to obtain a correct link.
Secondly, both 8.1.7 and Forms 6i and 9i OAS have been desupported, so
if anything happens, and you hit an unknown problem, you are on your
own.
Thirdly, 9i is absolutely stable, but 9iR2 is going to be desupported
on July 31.
I would upgrade to 10gR2 straight away, and at least 10g (aka 9.0.4)
iAS
You would need probably go to at least to Solaris 9. Solaris 10 has
been completely revised, so you may run into problems with older
software.
IIRC one customer has been forced to upgrade to Oracle 9iR2, because of
their upgrade to Solaris 10.
