Probably due to the requirement you use undo. See Metalink
Note:143217.1
The undo_retention helps keep it around.
Since it partially works for you, maybe a really large RBS might have
worked. Though by now
I'm sure you've restored. I'm surprised your compatible setting didn't
give a "feature not enabled" error.
