Oracle does not support all linux distributions, only a named list. That doesn't mean that the software won't work, just that you are on your own.

FC5 is a particularly tricky beast as far as Oracle is concerned - mainly due to the somewhat experimental nature of the distribution.

I got Tim Hall's install of the server software to work (http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/10g/OracleDB10gR2InstallationOnFedora5.php) but I'd probably recommend that you read Howard Roger's install guide at http://www.dizwell.com/prod/node/53 note however the very first sentence which reads

"I'll say this just once at the outset: please don't install Oracle onto Fedora Core 5. Go and obtain Centos 4.3 (which is just as zero cost as Fedora) and install onto that instead"

Now Howard and Tim are both talking about the server software, it's possible with the client software you won't need to do the jiggery pokery to ensure that it works, but I wouldn't count on it.
