App server 10g will not install on AIX 5.3

We are having a problem with installing App server 10g (9.0.4) on AIX
5.3...


Compatibility matrix shows it is certified with AIX 5.2 and 5.3, yet
the installer gives us:


Starting Oracle Universal Installer ...


Checking requirements...


Checking operating system version: must be 5200 Failed <<<<



One server is 5300-00 the other is 5300-04
Any ideas?
